‘Terminator 2D: No Fate’ – The Ultimate Terminator Game

Bitmap Bureau, the studio behind Xeno Crisis and Final Vendetta, has teamed up with publisher Reef Entertainment to bring fans a brand-new game inspired by James Cameron’s 1991 sci-fi classic, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Terminator 2D: No Fate.

The officially licensed action side-scroller promises to blend legendary scenes from the movie with fresh scenarios and additional endings. A newly released trailer showcases some of the film’s most iconic moments, including the bar fight where Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 acquires his signature leather jacket and shades, Sarah Connor’s daring escape from Pescadero State Hospital, and the adrenaline-pumping motorcycle-truck chase through the Los Angeles River. These sequences, along with many others, are brought to life in a striking 16-bit pixel-art style reminiscent of classic 2D action games from the early ’90s.

Set for release on September 5, 2025, Terminator 2D: No Fate will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The announcement also teases releases for retro platforms, with further details yet to be revealed.

According to the publisher’s official description, players will step into the boots of Sarah Connor and the T-800, taking on the relentless T-1000 in a series of action-packed missions to prevent Skynet’s apocalyptic vision of the future. Additionally, players will assume the role of John Connor, leading the Resistance in humanity’s desperate struggle against the machines. The game will offer multiple endings, allowing players to shape the fate of mankind in a unique blend of familiar movie sequences and all-new content.

Alongside the digital version, physical editions will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Fans can pre-order now through Reef Entertainment’s website, with pricing ranging from £44.99 for the Day One Edition to £89.99 for both the Collector’s Edition and the Online Exclusive Edition.

My Thoughts:

Bitmap Bureau has already proven their skill in creating high-quality retro-style action games, so Terminator 2D: No Fate seems like the perfect project for them. The idea of mixing direct movie scenes with new scenarios and branching endings adds a level of depth beyond a simple adaptation. The pixel-art aesthetic is a great fit for the franchise, bringing back memories of classic Contra-style shooters.

With so many lackluster Terminator games over the years, this one feels like it could finally deliver the experience fans have been waiting for. The multiple perspectives—playing as Sarah, the T-800, and John Connor—also help set it apart. If they nail the gameplay and pacing, this could be one of the best Terminator games yet. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it!
