The Pokémon Company International has announced the release of Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks, a new expansion set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), set to launch on November 8, 2024.
Pikachu takes the spotlight in the Pokémon TCG’s upcoming expansion, Scarlet & Violet: Surging Sparks, featuring a Terastallized Pikachu ex, set to release this November. In addition to Pikachu, the expansion introduces several new Dragon-type Pokémon, solidifying the Scarlet & Violet era as one of the most Dragon-heavy in the game’s history.
Surging Sparks is adapted from two Japanese sets: Supercharged Breaker and Paradise Dragona. As the names suggest, Supercharged Breaker focuses on Lightning-type Pokémon, inspiring the Pikachu theme, while Paradise Dragona brings in the Dragons. The entire expansion is themed around the video games’ second DLC, The Indigo Disk, and its Terarium location.
Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks introduces new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, including a Pikachu ex featuring the powerful Topaz Bolt attack. The expansion is themed around the Terarium, an artificial paradise from The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk DLC in the video games. Other notable Stellar Tera Pokémon ex in this set include a Dragon-type Alolan Exeggutor, Latias ex, and Archaludon ex.
The set also includes 8 ACE SPEC cards, 23 illustration rare Pokémon, 11 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards, and 6 hyper rare gold-etched cards. It will be available in various SKUs, including booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections. Prerelease tournaments for this set will begin on October 26, 2024.
In addition to this expansion, the company will release the Pokémon TCG: Grand Adventure Collection, inspired by Pokémon Horizons: The Series. This collection features Trainers Liko and Roy with their partner Pokémon, Sprigatito and Fuecoco. It includes four Scarlet & Violet Series booster packs, two promo cards, and an oversized card. The Grand Adventure Collection will be released on November 8, 2024. This set will feature the Pokémon Horizons promo cards, which were previously exclusive to China and select other countries. The release price has not yet been announced.
