It’s finally happening—Scrubs is coming back! Fans have been hoping for a revival for years, and now it’s officially in the works. Creator Bill Lawrence confirmed that the writers’ room is forming, and things are starting to take shape.
Speaking to Variety at the Writers Guild Awards, Lawrence shared some exciting details. “We’re just starting to build it right now, and I expect it to make an appearance very soon,” he said. In other words, it’s really happening—we just don’t know exactly when yet. But knowing how passionate the cast and crew have been about a return, this is a huge step forward.
The new Scrubs will bring back some of the original writers, along with fresh talent to mix things up. This means the show could have a familiar feel while introducing new ideas to keep things fresh. It’s still unclear which cast members will return, but considering how much Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke still talk about the show, there’s a good chance we’ll see some familiar faces.
Interestingly, the revival is being produced by 20th Television, the successor to ABC Studios (which handled the original series). That’s despite Lawrence currently having a deal with Warner Bros. Television. Thanks to some behind-the-scenes studio restructuring, he’s able to work on Scrubs while keeping his Warner Bros. partnership intact.
So, what can we expect? It sounds like this will be more than just a simple reunion—Lawrence is personally assembling the team, which suggests he has a bigger vision in mind. Will it be a continuation of the original storyline? A fresh take on the Scrubs universe? A mix of both? We’ll have to wait and see.
One thing is certain: fans have been waiting for this moment, and the excitement is real. Now, all we need is that next big announcement (hopefully about the cast) to get Scrubs fans even more excited. Stay tuned!
