The dinosaurs are back—and audiences are loving it. Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest instalment in the blockbuster franchise, has stormed into cinemas with one of the biggest openings of the year, both in the U.S. and worldwide.
Directed by Rogue One’s Gareth Edwards and written by Jurassic Park’s David Koepp, this new film kicks off a fresh chapter for the series, leaving behind the last trilogy and aiming to recapture the magic of the original.
In North America, Rebirth is on track for a $147.3 million five-day opening, with $91.5 million from the traditional three-day weekend. Overseas, it’s pulled in $171 million across 82 markets, bringing its global total to $318.3 million—as of 7 July 2025—making it the second-biggest opening in the franchise’s history.
This time, a brand-new cast leads the adventure: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Luna Blaise, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda. The story follows a rescue team dispatched to an island with links to the original park, where they discover a shipwrecked family—and some of the deadliest dinosaurs yet.
Long-time franchise names Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley returned to produce, with Steven Spielberg and Denis Stewart as executive producers.
While critics’ reviews have been mixed, the box office tells another story. Even with the July 4th holiday in full swing, cinemas have been packed. The international response has been equally huge, marking one of Universal and Amblin’s most successful global launches—something even the studio didn’t expect.
With a slightly smaller budget of $180 million, Rebirth is already shaping up as a big win for the franchise. Bringing in Edwards has given the series fresh energy, mixing intense dinosaur action with a new creative tone that sets it apart from previous instalments.
Elsewhere at the box office, F1: The Movie starring Brad Pitt continues to impress, crossing the $100 million mark domestically. Other titles currently drawing audiences include the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, Pixar’s Elio, Sony’s 28 Years Later, and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Meanwhile, M3GAN 2.0 is slipping fast in its second weekend.
Final numbers are still being counted, but one thing’s clear: Jurassic World Rebirth has reignited the franchise in a big way. The dinosaurs are well and truly back—and the world is here for it.
